Electric bike rental company Zoomo has forged a strategic partnership with Uber Eats, aiming to significantly boost the use of light electric vehicles for food couriers in London. This will see the introduction of e-mopeds into Zoomo’s product range, with a discount for monthly and weekly rentals for food delivery couriers.
This move is in sync with Uber Eats’ goal to achieve zero emissions for all food delivery trips by 2040 globally, with an ambitious target of 2030 for major European cities. Ending all plastic waste from deliveries by 2030 remains another goal for the food delivery giant.
Uber Eats couriers will benefit from a promotional offer on high-quality e-mopeds. The first month of rental via Zoomo will be available at £149, including insurance, substantially reducing the barriers to eco-friendly delivery methods.
According to Sustainable Future News, transportation is the largest emitting sector of carbon emissions in the UK. E-mopeds are projected to largely reduce emissions in London.
Nicolas de Juniac, UK General Manager at Zoomo, expressed his support for the partnership: “We admire Uber’s commitment to reducing the carbon footprint of their food delivery operations. Our collaboration with Uber Eats not only represents a significant leap towards a more sustainable delivery landscape but also reflects our shared vision for a greener and more efficient future in the industry.”
Echoing this sentiment, Matthew Price, Uber Eats’ General Manager for the UK, Ireland, and Northern Europe, highlighted the strategic importance of this partnership: “We are thrilled to expand our partnership with Zoomo to introduce high-performance e-mopeds for our couriers in London. This initiative is a critical step towards achieving our objective of emission-free deliveries in London by 2030 and globally by 2040.”
