The Anam Foundation announced an ambitious tree-planting initiative investing one billion VND annually to create greener, healthier communities across Vietnam, with emphasis on strategic placement where trees will enhance everyday life for residents, students, and workers. Unlike large-scale tree-planting programs focused primarily on carbon offsetting, “Anam Green Life” prioritizes social impact through targeted placement, providing shade, improving air quality, and beautifying urban environments in communities surrounding The Anam Cam Ranh and The Anam Mui Ne resorts before expanding to additional Vietnamese areas.
“Nature has always been at the heart of The Anam,” said Pham Van Hien, founder and chairman of The Anam Group. “Our resorts are defined by lush tropical gardens because we believe greenery contributes to beauty and wellbeing. Through this initiative we want to extend that philosophy beyond our resorts and into the communities around us.”
The initiative reflects recognition that tree-planting effectiveness depends not only on species selection and survival rates but also on alignment with community needs and lived experience. Schools with sun-exposed playgrounds, public spaces lacking shade during hot seasons, and neighborhoods with limited vegetation present opportunities where tree planting delivers measurable quality-of-life improvements.

The program works with local authorities to identify high-impact planting locations, prioritizing schools, public spaces, and neighborhoods where trees will address specific environmental or livelihood challenges. Rather than maximizing tree counts or acreage, the approach emphasizes placement where shade, air quality improvements, or beautification generate most significant community benefit.
“We won’t be simply planting trees wherever space is available,” Van Hien stated. “We want to, rather, plant them where they will genuinely improve people’s daily lives; whether that’s providing shade for children in a school playground, creating cooler public spaces or helping make neighbourhoods healthier and more attractive.”
The distinction between carbon-focused and community-focused tree-planting reflects broader hospitality sustainability trends where environmental action extends beyond property-level operations to community benefit integration. Community-centered environmental stewardship builds social license, strengthens stakeholder relationships, and creates lasting brand alignment with local development priorities.
Complementary Community Programs
The foundation recently completed home renovations and construction for disadvantaged families in Cam Lam near The Anam Cam Ranh. The foundation contributed 90 million VND to renovate the home of Mrs Truong Thi Loi, whose deteriorating house had become increasingly vulnerable to heavy rain, strong winds, and flooding, providing a safer, more spacious living environment.
The foundation contributed 150 million VND to construct a new home for Mr Nguyen Thanh Nhan, a technical employee at The Anam Cam Ranh, who has been raising four young children alone following his wife’s passing. His family had been living in cramped and deteriorating conditions that the new home addresses.
The combination of home construction and tree-planting initiatives demonstrates how community development can address immediate hardship while building longer-term environmental and quality-of-life improvements. The approach creates a layered social impact where interventions address both shelter security and environmental quality simultaneously.

Properties implement tropical landscaping, rainwater collection systems, single-use plastic reduction, and environmentally responsible practices, including solar power designed to minimize operational environmental footprint.
The Anam Group contributes a percentage of annual profits to The Anam Foundation, establishing sustainable funding mechanism for community development, environmental initiatives, disaster relief, staff welfare, and charitable programs. The profit-sharing approach ensures foundation initiatives expand with business growth while demonstrating organizational commitment to community benefit beyond statutory requirements.
The Anam Cam Ranh, located on 300 meters of beachfront on Vietnam’s Cam Ranh peninsula, operates as a five-star resort with 77 villas and 136 rooms and suites. The Anam Mui Ne, situated in southern Vietnam’s Mui Ne beach town, features 127 rooms and suites on 1.2 hectares of beachfront. Both properties showcase “Indochine Charm” and “Modern Luxury” design philosophy reflecting Vietnam’s colonial-era heritage integrated with contemporary amenities.
