Heyday Philippines, a wellness superstore operating in Metro Manila, has confirmed that it is on track to exclusively source cage-free eggs across its retail network, Sustainable Food Business has learned. This would make the company 100% cage-free in its egg offerings by 2027.
“Heyday Philippines will sell only cage-free eggs by the end of 2027,” confirmed Jemimah Santos, Marketing Manager. The company will add a statement to its website confirming this sourcing policy in the future, providing customers with transparent information about animal welfare practices in the retailer’s supply chain.
Refillery concept and sustainable packaging
Beyond animal welfare commitments, Heyday operates a refillery concept called Heyday Refillery, offering customers the ability to purchase products without single-use packaging. The retailer provides discounts to shoppers who bring their own containers for condiments, dried goods, and other refillery items.
The store uses cassava-based bags as an alternative to conventional plastic packaging. Cassava bags offer biodegradable properties, breaking down more rapidly than petroleum-based plastics.
Heyday’s refillery line includes superfoods, herbs and spices, teas, nuts and seeds, pasta and multigrain products, and flour, allowing customers to purchase these items in quantities they need using reusable containers.
Supporting local farmers
Heyday sources approximately 80% of its fresh produce from Filipino farmers, supporting local agricultural communities while providing customers with locally grown fruits and vegetables. This sourcing approach reduces transportation distances for fresh produce while creating market access for domestic growers.
The retailer’s fresh produce selection includes fruits and vegetables sourced primarily from Philippine farms, alongside its wellness grocery offerings of breakfast items, snacks, milk, proteins, and frozen products.
Heyday operates as what it describes as a “360 wellness superstore,” offering vitamins, minerals and supplements through its Heyday Essentials house brand, alongside personal care products, home and living items, and pet supplies.
The company’s flagship location is at ground floor, Glorietta 4 Ayala Mall in Barangay San Lorenzo, Makati City. Heyday maintains a predominantly direct-to-consumer online presence through its website alongside physical retail locations.
