Bangkok Produce Merchandising, a CP Foods subsidiary, is taking action against crop burning with the “Partner to Green: Corn Suppliers Fighting Haze Alliance Project.” This initiative, backed by Satellite Imaging Technology, targets the elimination of burning practices within the corn supply chain. The public can report incidents of crop burning via the “F.Farm” app, enhancing community involvement in environmental preservation.

This collaborative effort brings together governmental bodies, business partners, and farmers under a Public-Private Partnership aimed at responsibly managing the corn supply chain for animal feed. By leveraging daily satellite imagery to monitor hotspots, the project facilitates swift intervention when burning is detected. Repeat offenders face a one-year suspension of corn purchases.

The “F.Farm” app and corn traceability system website empower the public to play an active role in monitoring agricultural burning. This initiative, rooted in the Corn Traceability system established in 2016, ensures all sourced corn is traceable, from non-deforested and non-burnt areas. Incorporating blockchain technology, the system offers unmatched data reliability and transparency.

CP Foods: Initiatives beyond tackling crop burning

Beyond addressing crop burning, Bangkok Produce educates corn farmers on Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and provides digital tools via the “F. Farm” app. This support helps farmers improve productivity and income, promoting a responsible corn supply chain for animal feed.

Since its inception, the corn traceability system has engaged over 40,000 farmers and 600 collectors, covering over 2 million rai. This initiative confirms the food supply’s detachment from deforestation and burning practices, contributing significantly to resolving haze, PM 2.5 issues, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Bangkok Produce and CP Foods are committed to expanding the corn traceability system to seven countries, including Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Myanmar, the Philippines, India, and Bangladesh. Plans are underway to digitize corn-sourcing data from Myanmar within the year.

Other sustainability initiatives from CP Foods include looking into sustainable packaging options for its products and stepping up on water sustainability efforts following warnings of El Niño.
