AgroAmerica, a family-owned company known for its sustainable food and ingredient solutions globally, is celebrating a milestone this year with the launch of its new sustainability strategy, PlanetA. This initiative represents a strategic shift towards achieving not just sustainability but “Net Positivity”—a state where the company’s operations contribute positively to the planet.

PlanetA reflects AgroAmerica’s commitment to integrating economic growth with rigorous environmental management and robust social responsibility. The strategy highlights the company’s recognition of Earth as our sole home and emphasizes collective responsibility for its care. Under the leadership of CEO Fernando Bolaños, AgroAmerica is setting ambitious targets to redefine the standards of sustainable food systems.

“We aim to surpass neutrality and achieve Net Positivity—where our actions not only mitigate but actively contribute to a thriving planet,” said Javier Aguirre, chief sustainability officer of AgroAmerica. This approach goes beyond traditional sustainability goals, focusing on generating a net positive impact on the environment.

The strategy is built around a comprehensive framework that addresses several key material issues with specific, time-bound objectives. AgroAmerica is aligning itself with science-based targets to reduce carbon emissions aggressively, emphasizing its leadership role in fostering a sustainable future.

A pivotal aspect of PlanetA is the implementation of regenerative agriculture practices across AgroAmerica’s operations. This initiative involves collaboration with global NGOs and academic institutions to create a model that balances environmental regeneration with agricultural productivity.

The company has made previous strides with sustainability, detailed in its 2022 ESG report. Efforts include promoting soil health, resource conservation, biodiversity preservation and reducing carbon emissions. It has also launched a project to protect bees and other pollinators in forest conservation areas, an initiative unique in the region.

Other achievements include:

  • Conserving more than 970 hectares of forests within its operations
  • Holding 11 international certificates revolving around good practices, sustainable operations, food quality and safety
  • Being awarded the “2022 Conservation Leadership Award” for its Mayan Biosphere conservation project

AgroAmerica has not yet unveiled its 2023 ESG report, which is anticipated to release before the close of this year.
