A & A Organic Farms announced the expansion of its Sustainable Packaging Collection with the introduction of compostable retail packaging for its Organic Onion program, featuring compostable mesh bags paired with compostable header cards designed for professional and home composting environments.

The Watsonville, California-based organic produce supplier, representing quality organic growers throughout North America for more than 25 years, is expanding sustainable packaging offerings across multiple organic produce categories as retailers increasingly prioritize environmental responsibility alongside product quality.

“Sustainability is no longer a trend — it’s an expectation,” said Andy Martin, President of A & A Organic Farms. “Our customers are looking for practical packaging solutions that align with their environmental initiatives while maintaining the quality, merchandising appeal, and convenience consumers expect. We’re committed to continually expanding sustainable packaging options across our organic produce programs.”

Compostable materials and environmental benefits

The new packaging utilizes certified compostable materials designed for both professionally managed composting facilities and home composting environments, providing retailers with alternatives to conventional plastic packaging while enabling end-of-life recovery through composting infrastructure.

Compostable packaging breaks down in composting systems, returning nutrients to soil rather than accumulating in landfills or marine environments. The certification ensures materials meet international composting standards, degrading within specified timeframes while producing non-toxic residues.

The expansion addresses growing consumer expectations for sustainable packaging across organic produce retail. Retailers are increasingly evaluating packaging environmental impact as selection criterion alongside traditional considerations including product quality, shelf life, and merchandising appeal.

Expanded sustainable packaging portfolio

A & A Organic Farms’ Sustainable Packaging Collection now includes compostable open pint containers for organic snacking tomatoes and strawberries, biodegradable retail packaging for organic lemons, and the newly introduced compostable packaging for organic onions.

The company offers variety of retail and bulk pack styles, enabling retailers, wholesalers, and foodservice operators flexibility in selecting packaging formats matching their specific merchandising needs and customer preferences.

Additional retail-ready sustainable packaging programs are currently in development, indicating continued expansion of the company’s compostable and biodegradable packaging offerings across its organic produce portfolio.

A & A Organic Farms is showcasing its expanded Sustainable Packaging Collection at the Organic Produce Summit (OPS) on July 16 in Monterey, featuring compostable packaging for organic onions, compostable open pints for strawberries and tomatoes, and biodegradable packaging for lemons. The company’s innovations are also featured in the OPS Sustainability Showcase.

Founded in 2001, A & A Organic Farms represents quality organic growers throughout North America, supplying premium organic fruits and vegetables while investing in innovative merchandising and sustainable packaging solutions supporting grower economics, retailer operations, and consumer expectations.
