Vallarta Supermarkets has announced a partnership with GreenStruxure, a leading energy-as-a-service provider, to design, build, operate, and maintain an onsite renewable energy microgrid at its store in Oxnard, California. This project aims to supply 60% of the energy required for the Vallarta location at 2690 E. Vineyard Ave, Oxnard, CA 93036. With this, Vallarta Supermarkets seeks to not only mitigate rising utility costs but also significantly lower its carbon emissions by 60%, reinforcing the company’s commitment to sustainability.

“By partnering with GreenStruxure, Vallarta Supermarkets is taking significant steps towards sustainability and reducing our environmental footprint,” said CFO Joel Silva. “We look forward to offering this service to additional locations in the future.”

The collaboration will see GreenStruxure employ an array of technologies, including solar panels, battery storage, and advanced energy management systems, to create a clean, reliable, and affordable energy supply for the supermarket. This state-of-the-art microgrid solution will not only provide immediate energy cost avoidance but also contribute to a greener environment through reduced carbon emissions.

Vallarta Supermarkets will benefit from outcomes such as zero carbon energy, peak demand management, optimized energy usage from both the grid and its onsite system, and comprehensive performance insights via the AI platform, BeyondtheGrid®.

Vallarta Supermarkets begins transition to clean energy

One of the immediate advantages of this partnership is the substantial energy cost savings that Vallarta Supermarkets is expected to experience from the first year of operation. By having more control over its energy expenses, the supermarket can protect itself against the fluctuations of rising utility prices, effectively future-proofing its operations against market volatility. This strategic move is anticipated to enhance the supermarket’s financial stability, enabling it to better serve its customers.

The deployment of this renewable energy microgrid serves as a model for other mid-sized companies and supermarkets looking to transition to clean energy solutions. By leveraging clean energy, the company not only lowers its energy costs but also diminishes its environmental carbon footprint.

“We are thrilled to partner with Vallarta Supermarkets in their transition to clean energy. Our onsite microgrid supplies clean, reliable, affordable energy and optimizes energy costs to deliver the best outcomes. We believe this partnership will inspire other mid-size companies to embrace clean and affordable energy,” said GreenStruxure CEO Jose Lorenzo Lista.

Looking ahead, Vallarta Supermarkets and GreenStruxure are in discussions to implement similar microgrid solutions at additional supermarket locations, aiming to further enhance the availability of clean and affordable energy. This initiative ultimately enables Vallarta Supermarkets to offer competitive pricing to its customers while supporting sustainable practices.
