Fushun Dufengxuan Gushen Biotechnology Co., Ltd., a leading Chinese food manufacturing company specializing in high-temperature bone-based soup bases, marrow extracts, meat powders, and seasoning extracts, announced May 9 that it will achieve 100% cage-free duck egg and duck meat sourcing across all global factories by 2030 or earlier, expanding existing animal welfare commitments beyond chicken categories.
The commitment extends Dufengxuan’s position as China’s first soup base and seasoning supplier to establish cage-free sourcing policies, having previously set targets for chicken eggs and chicken meat. The expansion to duck products demonstrates broadening animal welfare standards across multiple protein categories in Chinese food manufacturing supply chains.
“Duck meat and duck eggs are important ingredients in Chinese cuisine and soup products,” said Yu Lianfu, founder of Dufengxuan. “Our goal to achieve 100% cage-free duck egg and duck meat sourcing by 2030 represents another important milestone on our animal welfare and sustainable development journey following chicken eggs and chicken meat.”
Cage-free duck production systems
Cage-free ducks are raised using elevated mesh floors or fermented bed systems, allowing ducks to move freely and groom their feathers. These production systems provide mobility and behavioral expression opportunities not available in conventional cage confinement while meeting environmental protection requirements.
Fermented bed systems utilize microbial decomposition of bedding materials to manage waste, reducing water usage and environmental impacts compared to conventional washing systems. The bedding provides substrate for natural foraging behaviors while supporting duck welfare through improved air quality and reduced ammonia concentrations.
Elevated mesh floor systems keep ducks above waste accumulation, improving hygiene and reducing disease transmission risks. Both systems enable ducks to engage in species-appropriate behaviors, including preening, wing stretching, and social interactions normally restricted in confined cage environments.
“Cage-free systems produce healthier and higher-quality duck meat and duck eggs,” Yu said. “This goal not only responds to consumer expectations for high-quality, traceable ingredients, but also prepares our products for export to overseas markets.”
Soup base, meat powder, and seasoning extracts
Located in Fushun County, Liaoning, Dufengxuan operates as a major supplier to restaurant chains and food manufacturers, focusing on natural, high-protein bone products. The company operates multiple brands, including Tangshidai, Tangleshi, Xinshishen, and Zhong’ao Tangye, providing standardized ingredients that enable consistent flavor profiles and simplified kitchen operations.
Dufengxuan has been featured by China Central Television, China Condiment Magazine, and mainstream catering media. The company listed on China’s New Third Board in 2016 under stock code 838561, holds more than 30 invention patents, and operates as a National High-Tech Enterprise.
High-temperature bone-based soup bases extract flavor compounds, gelatin, and nutrients from animal bones through extended cooking processes. Meat powders provide concentrated protein and umami compounds for processed food formulations, while seasoning extracts deliver flavor enhancement across culinary applications. The resulting products are processed into shelf-stable formats, including pastes, powders, and frozen blocks.
Yu emphasized the company’s core values: “We adhere to ‘customer first, product supremacy, and striving for excellence,’ working together with everyone to create excellence and share success.”
The 2030 timeline provides eight years for supply chain development, enabling duck producers to transition production systems and establish cage-free capacity meeting Dufengxuan’s procurement volumes.
