Central Hotels & Resorts has achieved significant environmental and financial benefits through a strategic sustainability program that reduced food waste by 12% while generating annual savings of 25,000 AED across its UAE properties.
The Dubai-based hospitality management company implemented a comprehensive “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” model that delivered 5-7% annual savings on overall food costs while preventing up to 40 metric tons of CO₂ emissions yearly. The program diverts up to 10% of waste from landfills by sending organic waste to Dubai Municipality’s Waste-to-Energy facility, reducing disposal fees by an estimated 20,000 to 25,000 AED annually.
“Our sustainability roadmap is not just about reducing waste or lowering costs—it’s about creating lasting value for our guests, employees, and community,” said Abdulla Ahmad Ali Al Abdulla Al Ansari, Chief Operating Officer and Group General Manager of Central Hotels & Resorts. “These initiatives reflect our long-term vision of responsible hospitality, where operational excellence goes hand in hand with environmental stewardship.”
Data-driven approach optimizes restaurant operations
The group’s restaurants have adopted digital tools to monitor waste trends and adjust menus in real time, enabling more precise demand forecasting and inventory management. Buffet offerings are carefully managed to avoid overproduction, while à la carte menus provide portion flexibility based on guest preferences.
This systematic approach addresses a significant challenge in the hospitality industry, where food waste represents both environmental impact and operational inefficiency. The measurable results demonstrate how technology integration can support sustainability goals while improving bottom-line performance.
Beyond kitchen operations, Central Hotels & Resorts replaced plastic room amenities with sustainable, fiber-based alternatives across all guest rooms, significantly reducing single-use plastic consumption throughout its portfolio.
The sustainability initiatives have generated positive responses from both internal teams and guests. Guest satisfaction ratings increased by 7-10%, with many visitors citing environmental initiatives as factors in repeat stays. Internally, 80% of team members report greater pride in working for a company that prioritizes sustainability, with many taking active roles in implementing additional green practices in daily operations.
Future expansion plans target energy and water efficiency
Central Hotels & Resorts is developing the next phase of its sustainability strategy, with areas under consideration including energy-efficient technologies, advanced water-saving solutions, and enhanced sustainable sourcing practices. The company has indicated openness to collaborations with innovators, suppliers, and organizations sharing similar environmental goals.
The expansion plans reflect growing recognition within the hospitality industry that comprehensive sustainability programs require continuous development across multiple operational areas. Energy and water management represent significant cost centers for hotels, making efficiency improvements both environmentally and financially beneficial.
As one of the fastest-growing hospitality management companies in the UAE since its 2015 launch, Central Hotels & Resorts operates across the Middle East and continues expanding into new markets while maintaining focus on sustainable practices throughout its portfolio.
