Banyan Tree Krabi has earned the distinguished Silver Certification from EarthCheck, making it the first hotel or resort in the Krabi region to do so.

The EarthCheck certification, known for its stringent and science-backed audit process, evaluates resorts and hotels on their performance in ten crucial areas. These include greenhouse gas emissions, energy efficiency, freshwater resource management, ecosystem conservation, social and cultural management, and several other environmental and sustainability metrics.

“EarthCheck requires all its members to meet every single criterion, every year,” said EarthCheck relationship manager Bingni Wu. “This means businesses must continuously work on both the measurable and qualitative aspects of sustainability. It’s not just about ticking boxes; it’s about making real, ongoing changes.”

Sustainability: Core to Banyan Tree Krabi

Banyan Tree Krabi’s sustainability team, led by marine biologist Thepsuda Loyjiw, focuses on reducing consumption rates through enhanced efficiency and the integration of new technologies and practices. Loyjiw and her team are actively involved in offering guests eco-friendly activities like forest bathing and hiking in the adjoining national park, emphasizing the importance of environmental conservation.

Cultural engagement and community support is another key pillar of the resort’s sustainability strategy. Guests at the resort are able to participate in Thai cookery classes, language lessons, and visits to local attractions like elephant sanctuaries.

The hotel also engages in beach clean-up campaigns and is part of the Banyan Tree brand’s global “Stay For Good” initiative, which includes community tours and handcraft workshops with local fishing communities.

Looking forward, Banyan Tree Krabi is preparing to implement a cage-free egg policy and a sustainable seafood program. These initiatives are part of the resort’s ongoing efforts to enhance its sustainability practices and contribute positively to the environment and the local community.
